OAKENCLOUGH LOGS

Oakenclough Logs supplies quality seasoned firewood to domestic customers in and around the Staffordshire Moorlands. We are based close to the market town of Leek on the edge of the Staffordshire Moorlands and have a second store of logs near Longnor in The Moorlands.
Delivery and prices:
Free delivery is only on loose (unbagged) loads of £120 and above and within the free delivery area (see below).
If you want a smaller quantity, if you live outside the free delivery area, or if you want your logs delivered in bags we will advise you of the cost when you order.
A loose load can be anything up to around £200 worth if all hardwood or around £130 worth if all softwood. We only deliver in bulk bags in very rare cases, but our prices are based on the following bulk bag prices:
Hardwood (HW): £102*
Softwood (SW): £64*
Mixed: £83* approx.. (depends on ratio of HW to SW)
*New prices from 01/12/2023. Orders placed before 01/12/2023 will be based on the old bulk bag prices of £93 and £58 for hardwood and softwood respectively.
We deliver using our small, manoeuvrable tipper vehicle. We will tip the logs in the most convenient location we can reach, ready for you to stack them in your storage location. If you want our delivery driver to help move them further or stack them please let us know when you order and we can advise you of the additional charge for this service.
We deliver on dry days wherever possible. If this is not possible, the logs will be protected with a tarpaulin in transit but may obviously get a little damp whilst you move them under cover.
Free delivery area:
We hold stocks of logs near Longsdon and near Longnor on either side of Leek. The free delivery area covers an 8-mile radius of these two centres and includes:
Leek, Endon, Stockton Brook, Rudyard, Rushton, Cheddleton, Meerbrook, Thorncliffe. Also Longnor, Earl Sterndale, Flagg, Monyash, Flash, Warslow.
Log sizes and moisture content:
All our logs are air dried (not kiln-dried). Some people believe that kiln-dried logs are better than non-kiln-dried, but in fact it makes no difference how logs are dried as long as they are dry. The drier the better, but any moisture content of 20% or below is legal and fine to burn.
Maximum log size: 11” x 4” x 4” (28 x 10 x 10 cm)
Average log size: 9” x 3” x 3” (23 x 7.5 x 7.5 cm)
Typical moisture content within the range: 12% - 17%
Maximum moisture content: 20%
Timber types:
Hardwoods include oak, ash, beech, sycamore, chestnut, hawthorn
Softwoods include pine, spruce, leylandii, fir
A typical load will include a mixture of timber types. You can choose all hardwood, all softwood or a mixture. Most customers choose a mixed load since softwood is best for getting a good hot fire started, then hardwood takes over to provide slower burning with steady heat over a much longer period. Softwood can be added intermittently to produce a good blaze.
